FAQ

Q: Do you shoot film or digital?

A: I shoot using a high quality Nikon digital SLR and Nikon lenses. I think there is definitely a time and a place for film, but for quality purposes and cost effectiveness, I prefer digital. Besides, digital helps me get your photos to you sooner!

Q: Do you do touchups?

A: Basic retouching - removal of minor blemishes, removal of shine, and softening of fine lines - is always included for selected high-resolution shots. If you want any additional work done to your images, just let me know - once I know what you're looking for, we can go from there. There is an additional per-hour fee for advanced retouching.

Q: Are you available to meet before a shoot?

A: Absolutely! It's a great opportunity to get to know each other and to figure out what you're looking for. Besides, if we get the details squared away before a shoot, there's more time to relax and enjoy!

Q: How do I book a shoot?

A: All of my contact information is listed on the "contact" page. Shoot me an e-mail, use the provided form, or give me a buzz. At least initially, e-mail is probably the fastest way to get in touch with me.

Q: How do I confirm a booking?

A: If you have booked a shoot and would like to confirm the date, time, location, etc., just drop me a line.

Q: What about locations - where do you shoot?

A: There are lots of great outdoor locations nearby. Depending on what your needs and interests are, we can choose a location (or locations) that best suit you. If you'd prefer a studio shot, I have a few options available for indoor shooting, as well.

Q: How long do sessions usually last?

A: Session length really depends on the purpose of the shoot. Weddings and other events are entirely up to you - I'll provide as much or as little coverage as you'd like. For portraits, it really depends on your needs. If you're looking for one shot for an audition, your session would be significantly shorter than if you were looking to build a portfolio. Once I have an idea of your specific needs, I can give a better estimate on session length.

Q: How do I prepare for a shoot?

A: See the "Prep" page under "Info" for more details.

Q: How soon do I get to my pictures?

A: Headshot proofs should be available within two business days following a session. Event and Wedding proofs will generally take a week, but specific deadlines will be decided on a case-by-case basis. Once proofs are ready, I'll e-mail a link to an online gallery. Please note that the online proofs will not have been retouched at all. Once you select your favorite proofs, the images will then be retouched.

Q: I can't decide - will you help to pick a headshot?

A: I am definitely willing to make suggestions, but ultimately the decision should be based on which photo you feel best represents you. Here's a tip someone once shared with me: Take your top five photos (give or take a few), print some 4x6s, and number them on the back. Show them to your family and friends, and get their opinions, but do more than just listen to what they have to say - watch and see what photos make them stop and take a second look. You might find that they say they really like the shot of you flashing your pearly whites, but it's the dramatic shot that really holds their attention.

Q: What happens if I have to reschedule or cancel?

A: If something comes up and you have to reschedule, the sooner you can notify me the better. There are certain times of year where my schedule is usually incredibly busy - if it's one of those times of year, your chances of getting a new appointment are better if I know far enough in advance. That being said, the rest of the year I'm generally pretty flexible. As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Q: Do you offer any guarantees?

A: I do guarantee my work. If you are unsatisfied with your photos for any reason, I need to be notified at the proof stage. At that point, I will repeat the shoot at the same location for the same session length. However, if you approve photos for processing, the guarantee no longer applies.

Q: Do you sell physical prints of the photos?

A: If your needs are not purely digital, I will send your selected photos to a local lab for processing. From there, we can arrange for payment and pickup.

Q: What forms of payment do you accept?

A: Currently I can accept payments by cash or check.
